Dying Clothes!

My first exciting piece of news is that I got my vest from Old Navy, finally! I've waited for a week and half, sooo long. Haha, but I finally got it, and am stoked that I can wear it over a dress for the rest of summer, and I can most definitely use it to layer in the fall/winter.

Excuse the face, I just woke up...

Now, I had a few pieces of clothing that I absolutely love, but I didn't wear them that often. I bought a maxi dress about a month ago that has this white and black pattern all over it. I liked it, and I like wearing patterns, but this pattern was a little too much for me, I realized, after I wore it a few times. Second, I have this bright blue sweater I got last year, which I also had in one of my Thrifty Thursday posts. I like blue, but that sweater I always wear it with jeans, and when I'm wearing "blue jeans", I feel a little weird about wearing a blue shirt or top. And thirdly, I have this loose sweater top with a crocheted back. I bought it a few years ago at Target and I loved it, it was a light beige color, but when I worked at Rite Aid stocking shelves, I wore it a few times and I got sweaty and it got dirty and it was just bad. So I decided I wanted to dye all three of these things.

The Dying Process:

I bought some Rit Dye Powder that you can get for $3-$5 almost anywhere. This wasn't nearly as messy as I thought it would be. Since I had three things that I was dying, I used both sides of the sink and put the dress and loose sweater in one side and the blue thrift shop sweater in the other (you don't have to use the sink there are directions for several different ways of dying.) . You have to use warm water when dying and keep stirring it as it continues to get darker. The longer you keep the clothing in the dye water, the darker it gets. I bought black dye, but as you can see nothing came out completely black. The loose sweater I pulled out when it was gray because I thought it was a nice color for the sweater and I liked the crocheted part being a darker gray than the rest of the sweater. The sweater came out kind of cool, in my opinion since it's made of multiple fibers, some of them got dyed and some of them stayed blue, I think it made a nice blend and when the weather gets cooler I will definitely be wearing it more. My maxi I liked to begin with but I was worried as white and black it would only be a summer dress, and I was hoping it would come out all black, but it got to a certain point and stopped getting darker. I'm a little disappointed, so I might dye it again so it will be all black, but I'm going to test it like this first.

A special shoutout to my good friend Nikki, she helped me with dying the clothes and taking pictures for the blog post.
